The Twenty Year Challenge
September is the month that Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church supports our local food cupboard. The needs of our community change with the seasons, children go back to school and receive breakfast and lunch there, but elders who have eaten from their gardens all summer come back, family members who worked out of town all summer return. The need for healthy, easy to prepare foods continues with an emphasis on proteins: canned meats and fish, peanut butter, baked beans, quick meals and low sugar fruits. The Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard turns 20 this year; can we collect 200 items each week in September to fill the shelves for the coming cold months?
An additional reminder that non-food essentials such as toilet paper, soap, detergent, laundry soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and feminine hygiene items are not available with food stamps. Please add these very necessary items to your grocery cart.
