Prayer: O God, our Guide and Guardian, you have led us apart from the busy world into the quiet of your house. Grant us grace to worship you in Spirit and in truth, to the comfort of our souls and the upbuilding of every good purpose and holy desire. Enable us to do more perfectly the work to which you have called us, that we may not fear the coming of night, when we shall resign into your hands the tasks which you have committed to us. So may we worship you not with your lips at this hour, but in word and deed all the days of our lives; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. (excerpted from The United Methodist Book of Worship,460. News from the New England Conference:
SOSA: Emergency Appeal for Funds to Ship Sweet Potatoes
This is a good emergency! A North Carolina grower has offered a donation of 6.3 million pounds of good sweet potatoes that SoSA, Society of St Andrew, can ship to feeding programs across the South, as far north as New York, and as far west as Kansas.

This is more than 18 million servings of food for hungry people. But we must work fast. This must be accomplished over the next 3 weeks, as the grower needs to clear the warehouses. Either we use it to feed people, or it goes to the landfills. SoSA needs funds to cover shipping of as many as 150 truckloads of sweet potatoes – at 42,000 pounds per truck. Each truck will carry food to its destination for $1,000 – $2,500, depending on distance. That’s only 2.5 to 6 cents per pound! A ton of potatoes is delivered for just $50-100.

100% of funds from this appeal will go directly to packing and delivering these potatoes.
To help, send a check with the memo line, Emergency Sweet Potato Appeal to: Society of St. Andrew, 3383 Sweet Hollow Rd., Big Island, VA 24526-8517
