The December-January newsletter issue bridges some major themes in Church time, secular time, and our business as congregations. As we come to the end of the fiscal year, we plan our budgets, offer our pledges, and work to finish paying our bills. All this, and we start a new year—hopefully depending on God’s grace for our Church’s business in the year to come. Look for it in your mailbox next week.
If you are able, please join family and friends of Sally DeLong for her funeral/memorial service at HHUMC on Monday, December 12 at 11 am. Shirley Fontaine is coordinating a reception after the service. If you can help set up, clean up or bake, call her at 990-0016.
Please join us for the last Advent study session on “Shine! Light for All People’s by Patricia Farris next Sunday, December 18 at 9 am, second floor “blue” conference room.
The Nominating/lay leadership committee will meet Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 pm to finalize the slate for the class of 2014 committee members/chairs.
Please join us for the “all church” meeting on Sunday, December 18 following 10 am worship. The agenda is as follows: budget for 2012 and nominating committee slate for the class of 2014.
Christmas Pageant will be held on Sunday, December 18 at 4:30 pm with a reception to follow. Practices and rehearsal for the pageant will take place during normal Sunday school time during the month of December. Sunday school will not meet Sunday, December 25.
Youth Group Christmas Party will be on December 18th from 6:00-7:30. (Please note the time change due to the Children’s Christmas Pageant and reception.) Desserts wanted. We will be doing a Yankee Swap ($ 5-10 gift exchange).
Winterport Live Nativity Pageant’s 44th annual presentation is scheduled for Friday, December 16 & Saturday, December 17, promptly at 7 pm, Union Meeting House. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early as the road will be closed to traffic, a flashlight is helpful as the streetlights will be turned off. Pastor David Nicol will be the narrator on Friday, December 16. This year’s Nativity pageant is dedicated to Scott and Beth Thieme, for their 13 years and still counting leadership in support of this pageant.
Confirmation classes will begin in mid-January and will be held for 16 weeks. We will be using a new confirmation curriculum called “Credo”. Reeni Cipullo is hoping to have confirmation classes from 9 am to 11 am. If you are interested in being confirmed or to be a mentor for a child being confirmed please let Reeni know.
Reeni would like to have a bible study/book study available throughout the year. If you are interested in leading a small group bible study/book study, contact Maureen.Cipullo@yahoo.com
The Great Recovery Starts with You….Financial Peace University
The past two years have been hard and many are hurting. It’s our place to join together as believers and lead America out this economic mess stated David Ramsey. Your church is offering a Financial Peace University class that will teach you God’s way of handling money. Together we’ll climb out-one family, one church, one community at a time.
Join us for the free preview night of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 6 pm. Classes start Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 6-8 pm and Saturday, January 21, 2012, from 10 am to 12 noon. The course is thirteen weeks long. For more information call 862-4195.
