Summer is here

Welcome to the church’s new blog, hhumchighlights. 

Summer is here at last, the July newsletter will be mailed out next Thursday, June 30 at 11:00 am. If you are able to help out, contact Paula Baines, HHUMC church admin. assistant and secretary at 862-4195 or hhumcme@yahoo.com.

The church office will be closed on Monday, July 4 for the holiday and Tuesday, July 5.  The church office will be open Wednesday through Friday: Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7 from 8:30 am to 2 pm; Friday, July 8 from 8:30 am to 12 noon.

Summer kicks off with Strawberry Festival on July 9 from 4:30 pm to 6 pm at HHUMC.

Ellingwood’s Corner UMC hosts Second Saturday Rummage Sale  And Bean Supper

Ellingwood’s Corner UMC will host its second Saturday Rummage Sale and Bean Supper on Saturday, July 9. The Rummage sale has a wide selection of items and it runs from 9 am to 12 noon. Later in the day, Ellingwood’s host a bean supper with all the fixings from 4 pm to 6 pm. The menu includes beans, hot dogs, rolls, brown bread, refreshments and dessert.  The cost for adults is $6 and it is $3 for children under 12 years of age. It is all you can eat with take-out available.

Vaction Bible School

What was Jesus like as a kid growing up? Can you imagine the stories Mary, Jesus’ mother would tell? Join us in August in Nazareth, as Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church will celebrate this year’s vacation bible school (VBS) “Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus was a Kid.”  We will start decorating the fellowship Hall on Saturday on August 13. VBS will kick off on Sunday, August 14 and run through Thursday, August 18.  Read more in the July 2011 newseltter.

LANDSCAPING MEETING
calling all persons interested in beautifying the church grounds.  We need input on what type of plants, trees, perennials and the construction of our patio by the kitchen. This is an exciting time for HHUMC!!! Stephen Ministry is God’s Love in Action

            Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide one-to-one confidential Christian care to individuals in our churches and in the community that are experiencing difficulties or challenges in their lives.  Karen Williams, a Hampden Highlands UMC member learned about Stephen Ministry three years ago, “I decided to become a Stephen Minister because I believe in volunteering.” Read more Stephen Ministry in the upcoming July newsletter.
